About me
I was born and raised in Boston Massachusetts but have found my way to sunny California, gorgeous Ithaca, the Okavango Delta, and tropical rainforests. My multicultural heritage and family values of learning through experience, language, and relationship-building reflects my research and personal ethos.
I’ve used education as a gateway to understanding the way different peoples and cultures relate to and shape our world. Through this I’ve learned that respect for how people appreciate, interact, relate to and utilize the environment is a fundamental prerequisite for researchers working within any ecosystem. I believe that to achieve just land futures we must take a look back into the ecological and social history of a place and take a bold step into our imaginations to plan for a changing climate. I'm a PhD student in the Graduate Group in Ecology, co-advised by Hugh Safford, PhD & Beth Rose Middleton Manning, PhD. My master's research examined agroforestry value chain development with a focus on gender equity. As part of the African Diaspora, I am interested in dealing with the unique land challenges Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities face and bridging diverse global knowledge systems to combat climate change. |
